I made this painting for Grove Gallery's “Women Painting Women” group exhibition in March 2026, in honor of my dear friend Fay Kaiser who had recently passed away in January 2026. Fay was a gifted songstress and an inspiring, compassionate teacher to all who knew her during her 40 years as a studio artist at the Noyes Cultural Art Center. As her friend as well as former student, I experienced first-hand the powerful, palpable impact she had on all her students- especially girls, teens, and women of all ages- to discover and embrace their own true voice. This painting of her in her youth, surrounded by butterflies, is a tribute to her immense spirit, her joyous heart, and her spiritual passage.
